The Playford Trophy
The Playford Trophy was donated by Cranes Badminton Club for a knock-out team event and for the first few years, the final was played at the Cranes Sports Club in Playford Road. Ties consist of 5 mixed, 2 men’s and 2 ladies matches and originally the ties were decided by matches won. In the 1977-78 season, a handicapping system was introduced and ties were decided on overall points scored. In 1986 the Orwell Flyers club donated a shield to be awarded to the runners-up.
