Bottom Row - Grace Chester, Georgina Sait, Maesie McKenna, Kayleigh Williams & Zofia.Campbell-Robson. 30 youngsters competed in the Ipswich and District Badminton League Junior Championships for the Under 15 age group at Whitton Sports Centre. Grace Chester (Woodbridge) won the girls’ singles event for the third year running and the Stowmarket pairing of Oliver Pearmain and Robert Wing retained the boys’ doubles title. The boys’ singles was played in four groups with the group winners progressing to the semi-finals where Rylee Hoang (YMCA) defeated Oliver Pearmain (Stowmarket) and Sam Rahmanpour (YMCA) was the victor against Robert Wing. In the final, Rahmanpour gained an early lead against Hoang winning the first nine points, taking the first game 21-14, and went on to lift the title winning the second game 21-18. Rahmanpour and Matthew Wilson (YMCA) won all their games in Group A to reach the boys’ doubles final. In Group B, Pearmain and Wing and the YMCA pair, Zheng Chok and Rylee Hoang, were both unbeaten when they met in the last game. Pearmain and Wing came out on top by a single point, 21-20 and became champions for the second year running by defeating Rahmanpour and Wilson 21-16, 21-19 in the final. The remaining events were played in round-robin format. Seven girls contested the girls’ singles with Grace Chester winning her 6 games including a 21-15 victory over Kayleigh Williams (YMCA) who finished as runner-up. Williams and Zofia Campbell-Robson (YMCA) won the girls’ doubles trophy which included a 21-16, 21-15 victory against Maesie McKenna and Georgina Sait of Abbeygate, who finished as runners-up. The mixed doubles was the closing event and there was an exciting climax as two pairs with 5 victories each, contested the final game where Chester and Lucas Campbell-Robson defeated Williams and Hoang 21-20. Results Summary: Boys’ Singles: Semi-finals – R Hoang beat O Pearmain 21-11, S Rahmanpour beat R Wing 21-13. Final: S Rahmanpour beat R Hoang 21-14, 21-18. Girls’ Singles: Winner - G Chester, Runner-up – K Williams. Boys’ Doubles: Final – O Pearmain & R Wing beat S Rahmanpour & M Wilson 21-16, 21-19. Girls Doubles: Winners – Z Campbell-Robson & K Williams, Runners-up – M McKenna & G Sait. Mixed Doubles: Winners – G Chester & L Campbell-Robson, Runners-up – K Williams & R Hoang. U18 ChampionshipsTop Row - Max Elvin, Theo Broom, Oliver Pearmain, Hannah Pamplin, Beth Scahill & Rachel Thompson. Bottom Row - Sam Rahmanpour, Rylee Hoang, Zheng Chok & Grace Chester. The Ipswich and District Badminton League Under-18 Championships took place at Whitton Sports Centre where Hannah Pamplin of the Abbeygate club was the star performer, picking up three titles. The first success for Pamplin was the girls’ singles where she emerged undefeated in a round-robin event. Rachel Thompson (Felixstowe), who lost 21-10, 21-5 to Pamplin, won her other games to finish as runner-up. Sam Rahmanpour (YMCA) won the opening boys’ singles game in Group A against Max Elvin (Woodbridge), 21-18, and this victory proved to be decisive as both players won their remaining group games. In Group B, Rylee Hoang (YMCA) was undefeated and Oliver Pearmain (Stowmarket) who lost 21-16 to Hoang was runner-up. Rahmanpour and Hoang therefore met in a repeat of last week’s Under 15 final. Rahmanpour edged the first game 21-20 and pulled away from 13-all in the second, winning 21-15 to lift the trophy. The doubles events were played in round-robin format where Pamplin won her second title, the girls’ doubles, partnered by Thompson. The Woodbridge pair, Grace Chester and Beth Scahill, were runners-up. In the boys’ doubles, two pairs, Theo Broom (Kesgrave) and Pearmain, and the YMCA pair, Zheng Chok and Hoang were undefeated with five wins each, when they met to decide the contest. Pearmain and Broom overpowered their younger opponents to come out on top, 21-6. Pamplin completed her treble by winning the mixed doubles with Pearmain, a narrow 21-17 victory over runners-up, Scahill and Elvin, clinching the title. Results Summary: Girls’ Singles: Winner – H Pamplin, Runner-up – R Thompson. Boys’ Singles: Final - S Rahmanpour beat R Hoang 21-20, 21-15. Girls’ Doubles: Winners – H Pamplin & R Thompson, Runners-up – G Chester & B Scahill. Boys’ Doubles: Winners – T Broom & O Pearmain, Runners-up – Z Chok & R Hoang. Mixed Doubles: Winners – H Pamplin & O Pearmain, Runners-Up – B Scahill & M Elvin.
