Under 15's - Sunday 6th January 2019
The Ipswich and District Badminton League Junior Championships for the Under 15 age group took place at Northgate Sports Centre where Kayleigh Williams (YMCA) won a hat-trick of titles and the girls’ singles and doubles entries were the largest for many years.
Grace Chester (Woodbridge) and Kayleigh Williams emerged undefeated as winners of their respective groups in the girls’ singles. In the final, last year’s positions were reversed as Williams triumphed in the deciding game to take the title 21-16, 14-21, 21-13.
The boys’ singles was played in four groups with the group winners progressing to the semi-finals where Rylee Hoang (YMCA) beat James Wing (Stowmarket) and Daniel Cook (YMCA) came out on top against Max Adderson (Stowmarket). The two YMCA players were evenly matched in the first game of the final, which Hoang won 21-17. Hoang gained a 7-1 lead in the second and completed his victory by a comfortable 21-9 margin.
The other events were played in a round-robin format. The girls’ doubles was contested by eight pairs with Chester and Williams winning their seven games to secure the title. The Xia sisters, Charlotte and Summer (YMCA), lost 21-16 to Chester and Williams but finished as runners-up with victory in their other five games.
The boys doubles was decided in the last match where two previously unbeaten pairs met. Adderson and Wing were the victors, beating Cook and Bob Ward (YMCA) 21-18, 21-11.
Williams completed her treble success by winning the mixed doubles with Cook. They won their five games including a 21-8 victory against Adderson and Georgina Margetson (Stowmarket) who were runners-up.
Results Summary:
Boys’ Singles: Semi-finals – R Hoang beat J Wing 15-4, 15-9, D Cook beat M Adderson 15-14, 15-10. Final: R Hoang beat D Cook 21-17, 21-9.
Girls’ Singles: Final: - K Williams beat G Chester 21-16, 14-21, 21-13.
Boys’ Doubles: Winners: – M Adderson & J Wing, Runners-up – D Cook & B Ward.
Girls Doubles: Winners: – G Chester & K Williams, Runners-up – C Xia & S Xia.
Mixed Doubles: Winners: – K Williams & D Cook, Runners-up – G Margetson & M Adderson.
Under 18's - Sunday 13th January 2019
Northgate Sports Centre was the venue for the Ipswich and District Badminton League Under-18 Championships where there were two titles apiece for Rachel Thompson (Felixstowe) and Ollie Pearmain (Stowmarket).
Will Anderson (Framlingham) and Sam Rahmanpour (YMCA), progressed into the boys’ singles final with comfortable victories in all of their group games. In a closely matched final, Rahmanpour won the last four points to snatch the first game 21-19 and went on to retain his title with a 21-18 win in the second.
Grace Chester (Woodbridge) was the winner of the round robin girls’ singles competition which included a 21-15, 21-17 victory over runner-up, Thompson.
Two pairs, Anderson and Pearmain and Rahmanpour with Matthew Wilson (YMCA) were undefeated in their first four games of the boys’ doubles and met to decide the outcome of the event. Anderson and Pearmain were the victors by a convincing margin, winning 21-9.
The girls’ doubles final required a third game to decide the outcome. Thompson, playing with Kayleigh Williams (YMCA) recovered from a 19-21 loss in the first game against Emily King (Glevering) and Chester by winning the next two games, 21-17, 21-12, to take the title.
A round-robin mixed doubles event was won by Thompson and Pearmain, who beat runners-up, Chester and Rahmanpour 21-19, 21-20 in their final match.

Boys’ Singles: Final - S Rahmanpour beat W Anderson 21-19, 21-18.
Girls’ Doubles: Final – R Thompson & K Williams beat G Chester & E King 19-21, 21-17, 21-12.
Boys’ Doubles: Winners – W Anderson & O Pearmain, Runners-up – S Rahmanpour & M Wilson.
Mixed Doubles: Winners – R Thompson & O Pearmain, Runners-Up – G Chester & S Rahmanpour.
